Standing on God’s Promises

Date: 6 September

By: Pastor Olajobi Makinwa

Main Scripture: Psalm 105:1

Introduction

Faith and thanksgiving go hand in hand. Throughout the past eight months of 2026, we have continued to stand on the promises of God. Despite every challenge, we remain confident because we trust Him.

Why Should We Give Thanks?

  1. Because the One who promised is faithful

Scripture: Numbers 23:19

God:

  • Does not lie.
  • Does not forget.
  • Does not change.
  • Never runs out of resources.

Because God is faithful, we can trust every promise He has made.

  1. For His faithfulness in the past

Remember what God has already done. His past faithfulness gives us confidence to trust Him with our present circumstances and our future.

  1. Even before the promise is fulfilled

We should not wait until we see the answer before giving thanks. Thanksgiving is an expression of faith. It declares that we trust God before the promise becomes visible.

  1. Even in the middle of the storm

God’s promises cannot fail.

  • Do not allow doubt to fill your mind.
  • Let the Word of God fill and saturate you.
  • Continue trusting God despite what you see.

Thanksgiving does not mean that we have never experienced pain. It means that pain has not destroyed our confidence in God.

Scripture: Habakkuk 3:17–18

  1. For our salvation

Salvation is God’s ultimate and most precious gift, given to us through Jesus Christ. We should continually thank God for the forgiveness, hope and eternal life we have received through Christ.

  1. Because He has kept us standing

We are still standing because God has sustained us. Our strength alone did not bring us this far; His grace has preserved us through every difficulty.

  1. For the Church

Thank God for His Church, for the Restoration Pavilion, the community of believers through which we receive encouragement, fellowship, instruction and support.

Conclusion

God’s faithfulness gives us every reason to remain thankful. Whether we are remembering past victories, waiting for a promise or walking through a storm, we can continue standing with confidence.

Reflection question: What promise of God are you standing on today?
